Emily Gagne is a filmmaker, critic and programmer based in Toronto.
She is the co-founder of Spooky B Films, a Toronto-based production company which aims to tells horror stories through a fun, feminist lens. Best Friends Forever, her co-directorial debut alongside her creative partner, Joshua Korngut, is currently in post-production.
Emily is passionate about supporting marginalized creators, particularly women. In 2010, she founded Cinefilles, a blog for female film critics. She currently co-hosts We Really Like Her!, a podcast in which she and Danita Steinberg speak to women about the films and filmmakers they are inspired by. She and Steinberg also host bi-monthly screenings at the Revue Cinema, programming films like A League of Their Own, Mermaids and My Girl.
From 2016 to 2017, she produced and programmed discussion-based screening series Reel Girl Talk for The MUFF Society, pairing Girl, Interrupted and 9 to 5 with panels on mental health and equity in the workplace.
In recent years, Emily has worked for Toronto After Dark Film Festival and Canadian Film Centre (CFC). Her taste in movies can be defined by what she deems the perfect triple bill: Halloween II, Grease 2 and My Girl 2.
